2 Corinthians 13:14 Verse of the Day 10/10/13
This Trinitarian formula closes Paul’s second letter to the Corinthian church. Just like Matthew in his recounting of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-19), Paul here demonstrates that the early Church believed in the equality of the persons of the Trinity long before the ecumenical councils that pronounced on these doctrines in the fourth and fifth centuries. While the three persons of the Trinity are equal in nature, the serve different roles, and the grace, love, and fellowship of this verse attest to the particular contribution of each member of the Trinity to the salvation that is ours from the Father, in Christ, and through the Holy Spirit.
Allow your wonder at the mystery of the Trinity’s unity and diversity lead you to praise our God who transcends human understanding. Thank God for the love that is displayed in His very being, and that he makes that love available to us.
