2 Corinthians 4:18 – Verse of the Day 9/5/13
This verse provides the key that connects Paul’s images of “jars of clay” and “our heavenly dwelling that are so important to the central portion of 2 Corinthians. The connection between these two images relates to the distinction between that which is seen and that which is unseen. For Paul, the Gospel hidden in our hearts is like a treasure hidden inside jars of clay, and true home is the existence that we cannot see, not the physical body that we presently experience.
Spend some time in prayer, asking God for ears to hear His word and eyes to see His truth. Ask Him for the faith to believe that our present existence is passing away, and that our heavenly home, which we cannot yet experience, is our true and eternal inheritance. Pray that you would value what is truly eternal and of ultimate importance, not what is presently attractive or merely superficially significant. Finally, thank and praise the Lord for the gift of eternal life.
