2 Corinthians 5:17 – Verse of the Day 8/8/14
Do you ever think about what it would be like to travel in time? What would it be like to live in a different age? How do you think it would change who you are to have experiences like that?
This verse captures two close related themes in the Bible: who we are and when we are. Knowing Jesus changes who we are because we have been united to Christ through faith. Our forgiveness removes the barrier of sin that separated us from God and gives us a relationship with Him that changes who we are. Although we probably don’t think about it as much, our forgiveness of sin also changes our relationship to time. This is because forgiveness of sin offers us eternal life – a gift we already possess. We know that death is not the end, and our status as new creations means that our life in Christ will never pass away.
As you pray, ask God to help you to remember that you have been redeemed from your old self and that you have been given a new heart that will last for eternity. Pray for the strength and the will to remember this reality when you are tempted to forget who you are in Christ and live as if these wonderful realities are not true.
