2 Corinthians 9:7 – Verse of the Day 11/6/14
Have you ever received a gift that was so perfect you could never say thank you enough? Or have you ever received a present so wonderful that you wished you could give something back in return?
This verse captures the heart of biblical giving, because it emphasizes that our ability to give always grows out of thankfulness for what we have received. When Paul reminded the Corinthians about the gift they had promised him, he didn’t try to make them feel guilty. Instead he emphasized that everything we have is from God, and so we should all be willing to share what we have in order to be a blessing to others. We are to give not because we have to, but because we long to follow Christ’s example of self-sacrificial giving.
As you pray thank God for the sacrifice of Jesus and the forgiveness of your sins. As you consider how much has been given to you, consider ways in which you might give to others out of gratitude for all that God has done for you. Pray that God would give you a willing and generous heart that is anxious to share.
