2 Samuel 6:21 – Verse of the Day 1/14/15
There are some things that are proper for us to do in one setting that are not proper in others. It is one thing to wear a bathing suit to the beach, but it would probably be a bad idea to wear one to a wedding. In this verse, David’s daughter did not think his behavior was proper, but that was because she did not really understand the importance of what was happening!
When the Ark of the Covenant was returned to Jerusalem, David removed his kingly robes and danced in celebration. Saul’s daughter Michal did not approve of what she considered behavior below his kingly station. This verse is David’s response: he did not dance for his own benefit, or for the peoples, but out of a desire to please God and to express his genuine joy that the symbol of God’s presence had been restored to His people.
As you pray, ask the Lord that you would be filled with the same sort of joy that moved David to dance in celebration. Pray that you would have as little concern as David for the opinions of others. Pray that your heart’s one desire would be to praise and honor God.
