2 Samuel 7:22 – Verse of the Day 1/22/14
This verse is part of David’s prayer after he received the covenant promises of God through the prophet Nathan. Nathan prophesied that a descendant of David would always sit on the throne, a prophecy the New Testament authors frequently found fulfilled in Christ (see the genealogy in Luke’s Gospel). Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies, but whereas the Jewish people frequently expected an earthly king, God intended something much better, a heavenly King who would also be a suffering servant.
God continually exceeds our wildest expectations. When we desire earthly success, he promises us something much better. God offers us eternal salvation and an eternal possession that can never pass away. Praise God that he offers us good things according to His all surpassing will and not according to our modest desires. Pray that you would believe His promises, and long for His eternal gifts.
