2 Timothy 1:7 – Verse of the Day 5/26/14
Can you remember something that you feared when you were very little? What caused you not to be fearful of that thing as you grew older?
As we grow up, we often realize that it is not necessary to fear the things that used to frighten us. We discover other factors that relativize the fear. For example, we realize that just because we haven’t looked in the closet lately does not mean that all of a sudden there are monsters in there. We know there are actually no such things as monsters that live in closets and so we cease to fear them.
In many places, including this verse, the Bible encourages us not to be fearful. In this verse, the Bible offers a reason that should help us to understand why. God has given us His Spirit. Spend some time praying that when you are tempted to be afraid you will remember that God has given you Himself. Because of the Holy Spirit we possess the power and self-control to follow God and not to fear. Pray that you would believe this and it would be a source of comfort and encouragement as you walk through your daily life.
