Colossians 3:12 – Verse of the Day 7/27/14
If someone were to ask you, “Who are you?” how would you answer? You might give your name, a description, information about your family, or maybe a description of how you spend your time. All of these help to answer the question, but how does the Bible teach us to answer it more fully?
One of the most amazing things about being a Christian is that God makes us new people when we come to faith. Just a few verses earlier, Paul explains that this is because our faith makes us new by uniting us to Christ. Christians have put off the old man (Adam) and put on the new man (Jesus). When we come to faith our whole identity is changed because of our relationship with Jesus. We really are new people, and that is why this verse calls us to live that way!
Spend some time in prayer thanking God for the new life we have in Christ. Give God thanks that our old self is no more and that he has given us a new self, one able to grow in the very likeness of God. If there are attributes in this verse where you particularly need to grow, ask God to help you in these areas just as He has promised.
