Deuteronomy 13:4 – Verse of the Day 4/9/14
What idols do you worship? That might seem like a silly question if you think that idols are only little statues or trinkets. By contrast, the Bible teaches us that there are many other kinds of things that we are tempted to worship, and we can tell what they are because they are things that we are tempted to value more highly than God. Can you think of anything that you might value more than God? We return to the original question: what idols do you worship?
When Moses gave the people of Israel this verse of warning, he was especially worried that they would start following the crowd when they arrived at the Promised Land, and that as a result they would start worshipping the things that the people around them worshipped. What do you think he would say to you about this today?
Spend some time in prayer asking the Lord to help you see your idols – the things that get in the way of truth faith in your own life. Ask Him for the strength and the desire to follow Him instead.
