Ephesians 2:10 – Verse of the Day 11/4/14
Some people think that if you believe you are saved by grace you won’t care about doing good works. The funny thing is, the Bible paints the opposite picture. Time after time, the Bible teaches us that remembering the grace that God has given us will lead us to respond to him by doing good works. We don’t do good works to earn salvation. Instead we do good works because we are grateful that God has saved us.
This relationship between grace and works is at the heart of what Paul teaches us in Ephesians 2. After telling us that we have been saved by grace and there is nothing we can do to earn our salvation, in this verse he calls us to respond to this great gift by doing good works in response. We could never be good enough to save ourselves, but now that Jesus has saved us by being perfect for us we are called to follow him.
Salvation is a pure gift of grace, and our lives as Christians who have been saved continue to be grounded in grace. As we grow in faith we are called to gratefully respond to what God has done for us. Praise God that the Christian life is one of growth and purpose, and consider how He might have you respond to his grace. What are the good works that God has prepared in advance for you to do?
