Ephesians 5:8 – Verse of the Day 5/21/14
Can you remember what it was like before you came to faith in Jesus? For some people coming to faith is a radical event that changes you completely. Others can never remember a time when they did not believe.
Actually both experiences teach us something true about the Christian faith. There is a sense in which Christian growth is always gradual and therefore hard to notice. It’s like getting taller. You never feel taller today than you did yesterday, but you can look back at how tall you were when you were much younger and sense a big difference. There is another sense in which being a Christian makes a radical difference. There is a way of life before and after knowing Christ that is as different as dark is from light.
This verse speaks to this radical difference. Does your faith encourage you to live in a way that is radically different from how you would live without faith? Spend some time in prayer asking the Lord to help you see areas where you need to walk more faithfully in the light rather than the dark. Pray that you would see the Bible’s commands and descriptions of godly character as a blessing and the only path to true life and satisfaction.
