Galatians 6:2 – Verse of the Week 5/14/14
Can you remember a time when you had a task that was just too difficult for you? Maybe it was something obvious like carrying something that was just too heavy. Or maybe it was something that you didn’t quite have the skills to accomplish. At those points it makes all the difference in the world if a friend or someone with the ability to help steps in and helps you.
The picture that Paul paints of the Christian life in Galatians is just like this. He reminds us that the Christian life is not something we can do on our own. In this verse he reminds us that we need the help of others to encourage us to follow Christ. Jesus fulfilled the Law for us in his perfect life of obedience to God. Now he calls us to bear one another’s burdens because he bore the ultimate burden of our sin.
While we could never have followed God’s Law perfectly, God has forgiven us because of Jesus’s perfect obedience and sacrificial death. As you pray, remember that Jesus carried the burden for your sin. As you give thanks for that gift, allow your gratitude to encourage you to think about how you might live as an encouragement to others in response.
