Hebrews 11:6 Verse of the Day 11/14/13
This verse comes at the front end of a long litany of Old Testament examples of faith. This “hall of faith” emphasizes God’s faithfulness to his covenant promises, and the author of Hebrews offers it to us as a demonstration of the certainty of our salvation. At the end of the passage, the author points out that every one of these Old Testament examples of faith died before they could experience the fulfillment of God’s promises in this life. How much stronger should our faith be, given that we have experienced the fulfillment of God’s promises in Christ.
Spend some time in prayer, thanking God for the gift to live after Jesus, so that we can see the full picture of God’s salvation so clearly. Pray that your knowledge of this salvation would lead you to trust God more fully, and that you would trust Him more readily in the future on the basis of his faithfulness in the past. Thank God that even our means of pleasing Him – our faith – is a gift that He gives us by His grace.
