Hebrews 13:5 – Verse of the Day 5/11/14
If you had all the money in the world what would you buy? At first, it seems like having a lot of money would be the solution to all our problems, but think about it a little more. If you could buy anything you wanted, how would that affect your trust in God? What do you think you would rely on more, God or your money?
The book of Hebrews teaches us that Jesus sacrificed everything in order that we might be saved by grace through faith. In response, it calls us to live lives of everyday faith and continuous sacrifice. It encourages us to trust in God for everything we need, to believe that everything we need is not the same as everything we want, and to trust that what He provides for us is good. Therefore, our lives are to be characterized by love for God and contentment for what He has given us rather than love for money or any other earthly possession. God encourages us by reminding us that our heavenly reward is much better than any earthly one.
Spend some time in prayer asking God to give you a longing for eternal possessions rather than earthly ones that cannot satisfy. Pray that your heart would be set on your eternal home, and that your heavenly focus would lead you to a better earthly life.
