Isaiah 9:6 – Verse of the Day 1/31/15
We live in a world where the word “government” usually reminds us of politicians who get in trouble and seem like they care more about themselves than “we the people.” Yet the Bible gives us hope that one day, the government and ruling of all things will be handled with love, justice, and fairness.
This verse comes from the famous prophecy of a savior who would bring peace to his people. Like many prophecies in the Bible, this offered hope in the present and hope in the future. In the present, it was a promise that God would deliver the people from their earthly enemies (the Assyrians) and restore an earthly king to the throne of David. Of course, the future hope is even better, because this verse is also a prophecy about Jesus, who will ultimately defeat all our enemies including death, and who will bring peace on earth and in heaven forever.
From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is the story of the coming of Jesus to reign on a throne of grace. Give praise to your wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, and prince of peace. Thank Him for the certainty of a salvation that was foretold long before the birth of Jesus and could never be in doubt.
