James 1:2-4 – Verse of the Day 5/4/14
Our natural reaction is to think that tests and trials are bad for us. Can you think of the last time that you had a test you looked forward to? Maybe so, but probably not.
Not only does James tell us that trials can be good, but that we should count them a great joy! Why? It is because the testing of our faith produces steadfastness, and a steadfast faith leads to a perfect and complete faith that lacks in nothing. In the Bible trials and temptations are described as a blessing from God and a sign of His love. We grow in faith as we depend on God in the midst of difficult circumstances.
What tests or trials of faith have you experienced recently? Can you see how God was using those situations to make you more steadfast and strengthen your faith? Spend some time in prayer asking the Lord to help you see. As you pray, ask the Lord to give you the desire to face temptation, the will to persevere in the midst of it, and a hope that is both the source and result of such perseverance.
