Joshua 1:9 – Verse of the Day 5/16/13
The book of Joshua opens with the renewal of God’s covenant with the people of Israel and the commissioning of Joshua as their servant leader. This verse is the climax of Joshua’s commission, and the emphasis is upon God’s promises. Joshua’s strength and courage are grounded in the confidence that comes through the promise of the Lord’s presence with him (1:5). While the promises of this verse were made to Joshua, they are extended to the whole people of God in Joshua 23.
God commanded Joshua to be strong and courageous in view of His promise to be with him. This promise is extended to the people of Israel and to the Church today numerous times in the Bible. Spend some time in prayer, thanking God for the gift of his presence and the confidence that comes from it.
