Mark 16:15 – Verse of the Day 9/26/13
Although Mark 16:9-20 was almost certainly not in the original text of Mark’s Gospel (see the notes included in the margins of almost any modern Bible), this verse so closely mirrors the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-19 that it is nonetheless worthy of our attention. Most scholars of the Bible believe that these final verses were added to Mark’s Gospel because some well intending scribes were confused by the actual ending in verse 8: “Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.” The instruction in this verse, then, may not be inspired scripture, but it is certainly true that our fear should not prevent us from proclaiming the Gospel message to others.
As you pray, ask the Lord to make you bold and to give you confidence in His Gospel. Pray that you would not be afraid to tell others the good news about what Jesus has done for you. Pray for the expansion of God’s kingdom, and that more and more people would hear and believe in Jesus’ name.
