Philippians 1:6 – Verse of the Day 5/12/14
Have you ever started something that you couldn’t finish? At some point in our lives, we start something, and it is discouraging when we find that we aren’t able to complete it in the way we want to. It’s hard to admit that we aren’t able to finish what we started.
While this might be a problem for us, it is not one for God. Paul’s statement in this verse is clear and powerful: when God begins the work of salvation in us it cannot fail to come to completion. Paul’s point is that faith is a gift of God given freely to us, and that gift is the source of our growth in faith. This growth is the work of God, but we are also called to respond to and participate in it! While we are genuinely called to respond to God, Paul encourages us to remember that God’s work in us cannot fail.
As you pray, thank God for the gift of salvation and for enabling us to grow more and more into His perfect image. Pray that you would have the heart and the strength to respond to God and grow in Christian maturity. Are there any specific areas where you need to grow?
