Philippians 4:7 – Verse of the Day 1/29/15
The Bible teaches us a lot about what is right and wrong. It also balances two very important teachings. On the one hand it is impossible to be good enough to earn our salvation. On the other hand true faith should also lead us to try to be good. How do we believe both of these things at the same time?
Interestingly, this verse about peace comes right after a discussion of this balance. Paul teaches that our works does not save us but at the same time that those who are saved must still do good works. Only after he teaches that does he go on to teach us about seeking peace through prayer. The point is that God has made peace with us by forgiving our sin, and he calls us to experience this peace by following his commands. Just as the Gospel leads us to peace with God, it calls us to pursue peace with one another.
As you pray, ask the Lord to help you to experience the peace that He has given you. As you grow in your faith, pray that God would help you to grow in your desire to be at peace with others. Most of all, ask the Lord to make you persistent in prayer so that his peace might guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus.
