Proverbs 20:22 – Verse of the Day 7/17/14
Can you remember a time when someone hurt you by betraying your trust or treating you wrongly in some other way? How did you feel? How did you respond? Did you want to repay them for what they did to you?
This verse describes a response that probably is not natural for most of us. When we are wronged, we want to repay evil for evil, but this verse tells us to wait for the Lord to deliver us. The verses that follow tell us we can wait for the Lord because he is both just and sovereign. God is in control of all things, He promises to punish the wicked, and He promises to set all things right. Because of this He calls us to trust in Him and wait patiently for Him to do this.
Do you trust the Lord to make all things right? As you pray, consider whether you harbor any bitterness or resentment that causes you to long for revenge. Ask the Lord to help you trust that he will ultimately judge wickedness and make restitution for all that is wrong. Ask for the ability to forgive others as the Lord has forgiven you. Praise the Lord, because He is a righteous and trustworthy judge.
