Psalm 107:20 – Verse of the Day 9/7/14
Can you imagine having the power to make something happen just by saying it? Fairy tales depict people with such powers, usually calling them “wizards” or “magicians.” We know that fairy tales are just stories and that no real person has such powers, but we still find them captivating.
While no human being possesses such supernatural powers, the Bible teaches us that God does. In the beginning, God spoke the creation into being. God said, “let there be light” and there was light. In a similar way, Jesus was the very word of God made flesh. The word of God became a human being so that we might be healed of our sin and restored to God. Just as God spoke the world into existence, he “speaks” our sin out of existence through the life and death of Jesus our savior.
This Psalm speaks to this reality. God sent out his word in order to heal us and deliver us from the destruction we deserved for our sin. Praise God that He has spoken for all who put their faith in Him. Thank God for his mercy and praise him for His wonderful words of truth, forgiveness, and eternal healing.
