Psalm 118:17 – Verse of the Day 9/8/14
Most people try very hard not to think about death. The placement of cemeteries is an interesting example of this. Cemeteries used to be located in the center of towns, and every church had a cemetery. Nowadays this is no longer true, as most new churches no longer have a cemetery and most new cemeteries are built outside of towns were we do not see them as often.
While most people these days try not to think about death, the Bible is very different. The Bible does not ignore the reality of death but instead teaches us not to fear death. Psalm 118 is a perfect example of this, as this verse reminds us that our earthly death is not the final answer. Through faith in Jesus we live eternally because of what God has done for us in His life, death, and resurrection. The healing life of Jesus defeats even death itself.
Do you fear death? Do you ever think about it? As you pray, ask the Lord to help you remember death more often in order to make you more grateful for the gift of eternal life. Ask the Lord to help you to live more faithfully in this life as you remember your gift of eternal life in Jesus Christ.
