Psalm 119:111 – Verse of the Day 10/25/14

There are many things that bring us great joy in this life, but usually we don’t experience them when we are reading a book. However, the Bible is no ordinary book, and if we read it carefully and understand it we should expect such great delight.

Psalm 119 is the longest and probably the most famous wisdom psalm in the Bible. From beginning to end, it opens up, explains, and praises the Law of God that gives the author great delight. The author expresses amazement that God sent His Son to obey the Law perfectly in our place, and so it no longer condemns us and instead is our guide to pleasing Him. True joy and wisdom can only be found in a life lived according to the will of God.

Where do you look for guidance? God says that his commands are a blessing, but we often experience them as more of a burden. We are often tempted to look everywhere but the Bible when it comes to guidance on the most important things in life. As you pray, spend some time asking God to help you believe that His Word truly is trustworthy in all that it teaches about all aspects of life.
