Psalm 126:2 – Verse of the Day 8/13/13
The title of Psalm 126 tells us that it is a song of ascent, written to be sung by the people of God when they made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and ascended God’s “holy mountain” to worship Him. The psalm includes both lament and praise, and from the opening verse appears to refer to the restoration of the people of Israel to Jerusalem from their exile in Babylon. Because of this restoration, the people are “filled with laughter” and “shouts of joy,” for “The Lord has done great things for them!”
The Lord has done great things for us. Spend some time in prayer considering God’s faithfulness to His people, both in the Bible and in your own life. Thank God for the specific ways that He has provided for you, and most of all for the forgiveness of your sin and the gift of salvation.
