Psalm 40:8 – Verse of the Day 6/21/13
Psalm 40 includes elements of both thanksgiving and lament. It is song about God’s faithfulness in the past, and sung in the midst and in spite of present difficulty. Interestingly, this verse affirming the goodness of God’s law serves as the transition point between lament and thanksgiving. The psalmist knows that circumstances do not change either the goodness of God or His commands.
When circumstances are difficult it is easy to forget that God is good and that the teachings of the Bible are for our benefit. As you spend time in prayer, ask God for help in the midst of your daily needs, but also be sure to give Him thanks for His faithfulness in the past. Ask God for the ability to see His commands as a blessing and to give you the desire to follow them.
