Psalm 41:4 – Verse of the Day 9/20/14
The tricky thing about sin is that it usually does not seem all that bad. In fact, often sin looks attractive or pleasurable. It is only when we think a little more carefully or look a little more closely that we realize that what looks nice on the outside is just a superficial cover for an inside that is rotting and leads to death.
The other tricky thing is that we do not usually think about the immediate consequences of our sin. In the back of our minds we know that sin displeases God and requires forgiveness, but we often fail to remember that sin has negative consequences for our everyday lives as well. As in this verse, the Bible frequently connects sin and disease on the one hand, and forgiveness and health on the other. The Bible paints a serious picture: sin leads to death and forgiveness leads to eternal life.
As you pray, thank the Lord that you are free from the consequences of sin and no longer under its curse. Ask the Lord to continue to shape you in His image so that you might experience the blessings that come from a life of faithfulness. Thank the Lord for his goodness and faithfulness to sustain you both in this life and the one to come.
