Psalm 64:10 – Verse of the Day 7/6/14
The Old Testament is filled with examples of God’s people trusting God to deliver them from impossible odds during times of war. Can you imagine what it would be like to prepare yourself for a battle against an army that outnumbered your own by the thousands? How would you remember God’s promises in such circumstances?
This psalm is a song of lament that opens with the author’s cry to God for help in the face of an overwhelming enemy. Ironically, God responds by turning the attacks and words of our enemies back against them, and so the psalmist ends the song by confidently calling us to rejoice under God’s protection. This verse is the psalm’s joyful conclusion.
God has promised to protect us in all circumstances, and He calls us to wait patiently and to trust in Him. As you pray, give Him thanks and praise for this promise of protection and salvation. Reflect on ways you have experienced His protection in the past and ask Him to give you confidence that He will be faithful in the future.
