Psalm 71:8 – Verse of the Day 7/14/14
Have you ever experienced persecution for your faith? If so, what was that like? If not, can you imagine how it would feel?
Psalm 71 was written from the perspective an older man weary of persecution. Although his entire life was extremely difficult, the memory of God’s grace and provision in the past was the one thing able to sustain him. The psalmist’s experience of God’s faithfulness to sustain him through intense persecution led him to praise Him and trust Him. God’s past faithfulness led him to trust God for the future as well.
Are there times when you are tempted to forget God’s faithfulness to you? Do you ever live as if God is not a part of your life? Spend some time in prayer asking the Lord to help you remember him in all circumstances. Ask God to help you remember the gift of Jesus and his gracious death in your place. Pray that you would trust the Lord in the future because of His faithfulness in the past.
