Psalm 95:2 – Verse of the Day 11/27/14
When we learn that God is an almighty judge, our natural reaction is to be afraid. God really will judge good and evil, and if we are guilty of even one sin we deserve to be judged. At the same time, we do not need to be afraid, because all those who have faith in Jesus will be spared from God’s judgment. The beauty of the cross is that Jesus was judged in our place so that we could be judged innocent.
Psalm 95 is a song of praise to God in which the psalmist invites the congregation to join Him in singing. This verse contains one of the main themes of the entire psalm: God’s presence is a source of thanksgiving. The psalm goes on to remind us that God cares for his sheep, and he also is a mighty judge. As we meditate upon his holy character as judge, the psalmist intends for us to long for his presence with us.
Spend some time in prayer in the presence of God. Thank God for his love for you, for calling you to repent and believe in Him, and for the gift of salvation. Consider that God, in his infinite mercy, has forgiven our sins in order to invite us into His presence, and praise Him for such a great gift! We have so much reason to be thankful!
