Romans 15:13 – Verse of the Day 1/23/15
Where does your hope come from? We are tempted to put our hope in many things, when we really think about it some of them are worth more trust than others. In Romans Paul talks about the best sources of joy, hope, and peace that will never fail.
In this verse peace and joy are the work of the Holy Spirit, and in the verse right before it they come from the Bible. Paul wants us to see the close connection between the Bible and the Holy Spirit, and the point is that they work together to give us joy and peace. For Paul, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ, who is Himself the Word of God made flesh, and the one spoken of in the Bible. God Himself is the source of our hope.
God is the source of our hope, and one of the chief way that he communicates this hope to us is through His Holy Spirit as we read His word and hear it preached to us. As you pray, ask the Lord to give you a heart that longs for His word so that you may experience and enjoy the hope that God has promised.
