Pastor Paul answers the question, “what is a prophet?” in this video from Buck Denver Asks What’s in the Bible? Volume 9: God Speaks! [Isaiah, Jeremiah & The Prophets].
BUCK DENVER
Sunday School Lady! What IS a “prophet?”
CAP’N PETE
I got this one! Ahem. Being a PIRATE can be VERY profitable!
SUNDAY SCHOOL LADY
That’s the wrong kind of “prophet.” You’re talking about “profit” – spelled p-r-o-f-i-t. That’s the money you make in a business. If it costs you two dollars to make a snow cone, and you can SELL that snow cone for THREE dollars, the extra dollar is your PROFIT.
CAP’N PETE
Right. Isn’t that what we’re talking about?
SUNDAY SCHOOL LADY
No. We’re talking about “prophet” – p-r-o-p-h-e-t.
Pastor Paul? What is a “prophet?”
PASTOR PAUL
Several Hebrew words are translated as “prophet” in English. One means, “someone who is CALLED.” The most common one means “someone who SPEAKS for someone else.” In the Old Testament, that “someone else” is usually God.
