Deuteronomy 31:6 – Verse of the Day 3/12/14
Deuteronomy 31 marks the passing of leadership from Moses to Joshua before the people of Israel entered the Promised Land. This chapter follows the pattern of Ancient Near Eastern treaties that reaffirmed a covenant when one leader replaced another. Just as God promised that He would lead His people through Moses, now He made the same promise to Joshua. The people of Israel could take comfort, for the God who led them in the wilderness would continue to lead them in the Promised Land.
God was always faithful to His promises to Israel, and we too can take comfort from the knowledge that He will be faithful to His promises to us as well. We never need to fear that he will leave or forsake us, because our salvation does not depend upon our own works. Jesus earned our salvation and gives it to us as a gift. Therefore we can take comfort because it will never be taken away from us.
