Ephesians 5:8 – Verse of the Day 3/3/14
In Ephesians 5, Paul draws a sharp contrast between believers and unbelievers. Not only should we avoid sin, but Paul calls us to live as light for others. Therefore, when Paul goes on to describe Christian characteristics, he not only lists sinful characteristics that we should avoid (verses 3-7), but he also lists the godly characteristics that we should pursue (verses 8-10). We have not only been saved from sin, but we have been saved for righteousness.
As you spend some time in prayer, thank God for forgiving your sin and enabling you to pursue a life that honors Him. Pray that you would see the Bible’s commands and descriptions of godly character as a blessing and the only path to true life and satisfaction. Ask the Lord to show you particular ways that you can pursue Him with greater consistency and intentionality.
