Matthew 17:20 – Verse of the Day 4/21/14

If you had infinite power to do anything you wanted, what would you do? When you first think of this, it seems like it would be a wonderful thing, but try another thought experiment. What if everybody in the world had infinite power to do whatever he or she wanted? How do you think that would turn out?

In this verse, Jesus is not teaching us that if we have faith we can do whatever we want to do, but rather that if we have faith in Him we can do whatever He wants us to do. The point is that if we really trust Jesus, we won’t want to keep living for ourselves. We will want to live for something bigger, better, and eternal. And if we are truly seeking Jesus, He will give us the ability to do whatever it is that He desires for us to do.

Spend some time in prayer, asking the Lord to help you to see how He wants you to live for Him. Ask Him to help you see any of your desires that are actually selfish and to replace them with desires that honor Him. Thank God for the good promises of verses like this one.
