Revelation 21:4 – Verse of the Day 9/17/14
If you have ever spent much time with a baby, you know that it does not take much to make a young child cry. Basic needs like hunger and thirst, the regular need for a fresh diaper, sudden sounds or lights, or any number of other minute causes are all it takes for the tears to flow.
While we do grow more resilient over time, and usually it takes more to make us cry than it does a baby, this life is still filled with many difficulties and sorrows that make us want to cry. The reality of sin in this world and in our hearts makes life hard and discouraging. Yet this Psalm reminds us that the sorrows of this life are not the final answer. God promises to wipe the tears from our eyes, not by pretending the hurt is not there, but by taking it away. Those who have faith in Christ look forward to a time when there will be no more pain that causes tears in the first place.
Spend some time in prayer asking God to give you a full sense of this future hope. As you look forward to your future hope, allow it to give you peace in the present. Praise God for the comfort that comes through the healing love of Jesus.
