Romans 6:5 – Verse of the Day 5/7/14
Have you ever known somebody who built a ridiculous argument with sketchy logic? Some people are really good at combining a bunch of half-truths together in a way that seems just logical enough to trick you. The problem is that a bunch of half-truths never really get you to the whole truth.
In this verse, Paul is responding to just this sort of person. Just in case somebody might argue that we should sin more so that God would have the opportunity to forgive us more, Paul shuts such silly thinking down. The whole point of being saved from sin is to free us from it, not to give us the opportunity to do it more.
Quite to the contrary, the Christian life does not stop when we are saved through faith, but rather is one of constant growth in Christian maturity. We have not only been saved from sin, but also saved for life. Paul encourages us to remember that true life comes, when our thankfulness for our forgiveness leads us to pursue obedience. Spend some time in prayer asking God to give you the desire to daily grow more and more into His image.
